Some lives do not sit neatly within one set of borders. A house in London and another in the South of France; a business that keeps you in Geneva or New York for half the year; a British upbringing and a working life spent elsewhere; a retirement divided between two countries. For members in that position, a search confined to a single country is the wrong shape from the outset. The County Register has arranged introductions for discerning single people since 1983, and through our bespoke membership the search extends to the countries where our members live, work or spend part of the year.

Who International Introductions Are For

Three kinds of member come to us for a search that crosses borders.

Those who live between countries. Members whose year is genuinely divided, and for whom a partner introduced exclusively in one place would mean a relationship conducted around airports. The search should follow the life, not the other way round.

Those based abroad with a genuine connection to Britain. Members living overseas who would like to meet someone British, or someone who understands the life they came from. A long-established British agency is often the shortest route to that, and it is a request we receive regularly.

Those whose search should simply not be limited. Members based in the United Kingdom who see no reason to rule out the right person on the grounds of geography, particularly where they have the means and the flexibility to travel.

How an International Search Works

The method does not change when the search crosses a border. The care taken over it becomes more important, not less.

It begins with the same conversation. Your profiling interview takes place wherever suits you: at your home in the United Kingdom, at our London office in Berkeley Square, at our Warwickshire headquarters, or abroad where circumstances require it. Nothing begins until that conversation has taken place and you have approved how you are described.

The search is defined with you, country by country. Rather than a general instruction to look abroad, we agree where the search should extend and why: where you spend your time, where you would consider spending it, and where you would not.

Introductions are found by approach, not by advertisement. Beyond our own membership, individuals are approached directly and discreetly on your behalf.

Our standards travel with the search. Every individual put forward to you, at home or overseas, is interviewed and has their identity verified before any details are shared.

The discretion is unchanged. No profile exists, nothing is searchable, and your details are shared only with your agreement, in any country.

Carte Blanche

An international search sits within Carte Blanche, our bespoke membership: the one County Register membership in which the search extends beyond the United Kingdom. It is composed individually rather than selected from a grid. The term, the scope of the search, the supporting services and the degree of our founder's personal involvement are all agreed in consultation, and the fee is presented in a tailored proposal afterwards.

Heather Heber Percy, who founded the agency in 1983, oversees these memberships personally, supported by a dedicated senior matchmaker. We accept only a small number at any one time, so that this level of involvement remains genuine.

Europe and Beyond

British members with European lives are the largest part of this work: second homes in France, Italy, Spain and Portugal; working lives in Geneva, Zurich, Monaco, Paris and Amsterdam; and a steady number of members who have retired abroad and would like to meet someone with the same frame of reference. Beyond Europe, we are asked most often about the United States, the Gulf and Hong Kong or Singapore, usually by members whose work has taken them there.

We will always tell you honestly where we believe we can conduct a proper search and where we cannot. An agency that claims to introduce members anywhere in the world is describing an ambition rather than a service.

Why a British Agency for an International Search

Two reasons, and they are the reasons members give us.

Judgement is cultural as well as personal. Understanding what a member means when they describe the life they want, and recognising it in someone else, depends on understanding where they come from. A British agency of forty-three years' standing reads British nuance well, which matters a great deal to members abroad who are looking for someone with a shared frame of reference.

Continuity. Wherever the search leads, your matchmaker does not change, and the agency you engaged in 1983 is the same one you are dealing with today. In an industry where businesses come and go, that continuity is the practical form of trustworthiness.

Do you arrange introductions outside the United Kingdom?

Yes, through Carte Blanche, our bespoke membership. Our four standard memberships arrange introductions throughout the United Kingdom; Carte Blanche is the one membership in which the search extends beyond it, to the countries where you live, work or spend part of the year.

Can I join if I live abroad?

Yes. We work with members based overseas, particularly those who retain a genuine connection to Britain, whether through upbringing, family, property or work. Your profiling interview is arranged wherever suits you, and the search is agreed with you country by country.

Are people introduced abroad vetted to the same standard?

Yes. Every individual put forward to you, wherever they live, is interviewed and has their identity verified before any of their details are shared with you. This is the standard the whole service rests on and it does not change at a border.

Which countries do you search in?

The search is agreed individually with each member rather than drawn from a fixed list. In practice most international searches take place across Europe, with the United States, the Gulf and parts of Asia arising where a member's work or family has taken them there. We will tell you plainly where we believe a proper search is possible and where it is not.

How are fees arranged for an international membership?

Carte Blanche is composed individually, so the fee is presented in a tailored proposal following a private consultation. Our four standard memberships, which arrange introductions within the United Kingdom, each carry a single fee covering a dedicated matchmaker and an agreed number of hand-selected introductions over a set term, discussed with you when we speak.
