A Matchmaker in London

A Matchmaker in London

Bespoke Introductions from our Mayfair office, arranged privately since 1983.

If you are looking for a matchmaker in London, you are looking for something a screen cannot provide: a person who knows you, who knows the people they are introducing you to, and who exercises judgement on your behalf. The County Register has been arranging introductions for discerning single people in London and the Home Counties since 1983, and we receive members at our office at 35 Berkeley Square in Mayfair. Nothing about your search appears online, no profile exists, and every person we introduce you to has been interviewed in person and had their identity verified first.

Why London Makes Matchmaking Necessary

London is the easiest city in the country in which to meet a great many people and one of the hardest in which to meet the right one. Our London members tend to describe the same three difficulties.

Visibility. A senior lawyer, a surgeon, a fund manager or the head of a family business cannot publish a description of themselves and hope not to be recognised by a client, a colleague or a member of their own staff. In a professional city with a small social world at its senior levels, a public profile is a genuine risk rather than a mild embarrassment.

Time. The people we represent work long hours and travel frequently. Screening strangers is not a plausible evening activity, and the calendar is the binding constraint on how many people they can reasonably meet.

Circles that have narrowed. Most of our London members have accomplished lives full of people, and almost nobody new. Introductions through friends dried up years ago, and the remaining routes are either public or unappealing.

A matchmaker addresses all three at once.

You have one long conversation, and then you meet people who have already been chosen with care.

How Matchmaking Works in London

  1. 01

A private conversation. A confidential discussion with our team to establish whether membership is right for you.

  2. 02

Your profiling interview. An in-depth consultation with your matchmaker, at your home, at our Berkeley Square office or at our Warwickshire headquarters, whichever suits you. Your service begins once this has taken place and you have approved how you are described.

  3. 03

Hand-selection, and headhunting where needed. Your matchmaker considers our London and Home Counties membership, and where nobody suitable is available, approaches people beyond it discreetly on your behalf.

  4. 04

Introductions, one at a time. Each person is put forward individually, with your agreement sought before any contact details are exchanged.

  5. 05

Feedback after each meeting, which shapes every subsequent selection.

Our Mayfair office at 35 Berkeley Square

Our Mayfair Office

We receive members at 35 Berkeley Square, London W1J 5BF, a short walk from Green Park. Consultations here are private, unhurried and by appointment only. For members who would rather not travel, or whose diaries make Mayfair awkward, your matchmaker will come to your home; a good proportion of our profiling interviews take place that way.

Our matchmaking headquarters remains in Warwickshire, where the wider membership is held and where our matchmakers work together on selections. In practice this means a London member has both a matchmaker they see in person and the reach of a national membership behind them.

Where Our London Members Live

We introduce members across London and the counties around it: Mayfair, Belgravia, Knightsbridge, Chelsea and Kensington; Holland Park and Notting Hill; Marylebone and St John's Wood; Hampstead and Highgate; Richmond, Barnes and Wimbledon; and the City and Docklands for those who live where they work. A substantial part of our membership divides its time between a London home and a house in the country, which is one reason our reach across the Home Counties and beyond matters as much as our reach within the capital.

Who We Introduce

Our London members are accomplished, discerning people aged between 30 and 80, most commonly between 45 and 70. They include senior figures in law, finance and medicine, business owners and entrepreneurs, senior members of the armed forces and the diplomatic service, academics, figures in the arts, and retired executives. Some have never married; many are divorced or widowed and considering a new chapter carefully.

Every one of them has been interviewed in person and identity-verified, and so has every person we recommend to them, including those we approach from outside our membership.

How Fees Work for a London Membership

A fair question, and the honest answer is more useful than a figure.

Matchmaking is charged as a membership fee covering an agreed number of hand-selected introductions over a set term, rather than a charge for each person you meet. What a membership involves depends on the depth and length of the search: how many introductions are agreed, how long it runs, the seniority of the matchmaker who takes it and whether it extends beyond our membership through headhunting. Those particulars are agreed with you and set out in your Membership Agreement rather than published here.

Membership is by consultation. We will explain which of our four levels fits your circumstances, and what it would involve, in a private conversation once we understand what you are looking for. Our fees are the same wherever a member lives; there is no London premium.

Members make a considered commitment to the full service period, with the standard statutory fourteen-day right to cancel at the start.

Heritage in a City of New Arrivals

The County Register was founded in 1983 and has been arranging introductions continuously ever since, which in an industry with a high turnover of businesses is worth something. Our founder, Heather Heber Percy, remains personally involved in the agency and, at Bespoke level, in the matchmaking itself. We have been recognised with the title of Dating Agency of the Year.

For members whose lives extend beyond the United Kingdom, whether through work, property or family, our bespoke Carte Blanche membership extends the search internationally.

Questions About Matchmaking in London

How are fees arranged for a London membership?

Matchmaking is charged as a membership fee covering an agreed number of hand-selected introductions over a set term, rather than a charge for each introduction. At The County Register, membership is by consultation: we explain the level that fits your circumstances, what it would involve and its fee in a private conversation, and the particulars are then set out in your Membership Agreement. Our fees are the same wherever a member lives, so there is no London premium.

Where in London are you based?

Our London office is at 35 Berkeley Square, Mayfair, London W1J 5BF, where we receive members by appointment. Our matchmaking headquarters is in Warwickshire, and your matchmaker will also come to your home for your profiling interview if you prefer.

Do you only introduce people who live in London?

No. We introduce members throughout the United Kingdom, and many of our London members are introduced to people in the Home Counties or further afield, particularly those who divide their time between London and a house in the country.

Will my search be visible to anyone in London?

No. There is no profile, no listing and nothing searchable about your membership. Your details are handled only by our matchmaking team, they are shared with another member only when you have agreed, and every member is bound to confidentiality about their own membership and about anyone they are introduced to.

Are you a marriage bureau?

The term is older than ours but the work is the same tradition: a person who makes considered introductions with a serious relationship in view, rather than a platform on which to browse. Our members are looking for a lasting relationship, and a number of them have married someone we introduced.

Can I meet my matchmaker before joining?

Yes. The profiling interview takes place in person at Bespoke, Executive and Portfolio levels, at your home or at one of our offices, and no service begins until it has happened and you have approved how you are described. At Cameo level the consultation is by video or at our Warwickshire office.
